Breast augmentation with implants
Breast Augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the world. Before your breast augmentation procedure you should clearly define the main reasons for doing this. There are several main reasons a woman might choose surgery:
- Woman is not satisfied with breast size and shape
- There are congenital abnormalities of the breast (both or one)
- There is congenital breast deformity
- Woman wants to restore breast size and shape after delivery
- Woman wants to correct breast asymmetry
Breast implants could provide psychological satisfaction; help boost self-esteem, body image as well as increase quality of living. The most important thing to know is that the surgery could be done only if you want it for sure. This will never improve family relations or make other happier. This is decision and will of a patient and the only indication for surgery.
Types of Implants:
There are two main types of breast implants: saline-filled and silicone gel-filled implants. Silicone gel-filled implants are silicone shell implants filled with silicone gel. Saline-filled implants are silicone shell implants filled with saline solution (general isotopic aqueous solution with osmotic pressure, salt composition and buffer properties similar to blood serum). Most patients note a more realistic feel of silicone gel-filled implants and state that they look more like natural breasts. Saline implants tend to look less realistic. Implants differ in their shapes as well. Some of them are round, other of a “teardrop” form, also called as “anatomic” implants.
Since breast development may last until you are 20 years old, it is recommended to wait with breast augmentation surgery until you are at least 18-20.
A personal consultation is the first step for every patient considering breast augmentation surgery. Surgeon and patient shall discuss all issues of concern, and then measure breasts and chest, decide on proper implants, and agree on a place of the cut.
Duration of the surgery – 1-2 hours. The surgery is done under general anaesthesia when the patient sleeps.
Cut is done whether around the areola (the darker area of skin around the nipple), in the crease under the breast or in armpit. Implants can be placed under the muscle or under the gland. Location of implants is discussed with the patient before the surgery. More realistic look is achieved when placing the implant under the muscle not above it.
It is recommended to wear special compression breast band for 1-2 months after the surgery. Stitches are removed after ~10 days after the surgery. After 2 weeks after the surgery the patient is recommended to begin silicone scar treatments in preventing scar formation. After three weeks after the surgery special breast massage are done for softening scars emerging in breasts. Final result is visible after about 2-3 months after the surgery. During this period of time surgery scars soften and implants become encapsulated.
